Sunday Funday

I want to try make it a regular thing to upload a small project every Sunday - it will be something that's quick and fun to do. This will make sure I don't get caught up too much in commissions and business-y work, and also ensures I maintain a decent level of activity on this blog!
And so I introduce to you, my very first Sunday Funday upcycled dress.

The turquoise skirt was originally a dress that was way too tight around the bust and sleeves. I loved the rough cotton feel of it and its colour too much to donate it to my smaller sister, so I found a plain white tee and replaced the dress bust with the tee.

I probably should have lined up the tartan lines with the tee, but I was worried that it would make the skirt uneven, since the tartan wasn't perfectly straight against the seams to being with.
I hacked off quite a bit from the bust and midriff of the dress, which raised the skirt higher up my waist (for breathing room, you know). The T-shirt was made of quite a stretchy thin material, which was a huge help because it meant I didn't need to put any darts or gathering or anything into the skirt to make it line up and fit the top. I simply stretched the tee slightly to fit the skirt, and sewed. It sits nicely because the tee pulls it snugly against the body but the skirt isn't tailored to be tight. A lovely casual summer outfit.
