Mrs K's birthday dress

In my first year of uni a friend of mine asked me to sew a dress for her mom. She picked out the fabric, a sparkly sort of lamé netting. The idea was something snazzy and glamorous but that still reflected the demure dignity of her age.

We decided on butterfly wings straight away - they hide any wobbly bits and the drape is elegant and stylish - better than sleeves. We also didn't want to risk making anything too tight, since we didn't have most of her measurements. The dress is contoured around the waist where the wings meet together but otherwise not really shaped.

Here's a picture of me trying on the dress during construction, please try not to laugh. It's a bit tighter on me, so you can see where it is shaped around the waist.

She loved the dress, and really enjoyed her lovely birthday celebrations.
