Charmander Zippo Lighter

The internet is a wonderful place, full of ideas to borrow and replicate. This is one of them. Pokemon are very close to my heart, probably because they made my early Saturday mornings so much better.

I used nail varnish as the paint, since I couldn't find any other heat resistant craft paint. The colours were perfect, and Jess lent me her superthin black brush for the outlines. The Zippo is definitely not a real Zippo, but a cheap knock-off. It had a grainy matt texture that I really liked, instead of the normal smooth metallic of most lighters.

Oops! Nail polish needs to dry thoroughly between layers. I got impatient, and smudge. It also turns out that nail polish is not that great at resisting heat - Charmander's smile melted off a little where it was closest to the flame. It's ok though, he just looks a little goofy now.

P.S. Those are not my hands. Never would my nails be so clipped and neat!
